ASU Establishment
The ASU was established in August 2015 at a founding conference held in Mogadishu, Somalia attended by representatives of 39 universities who adopted the constitution of the Association and elected its leadership. The conference was also attended by the Somali Federal Government Deputy Minister for Education and Higher Education as well as the Director of Higher Education for the Ministry. Both government officers spoke at the event, praised the outcome and pledged to work with the new organization.

Vision
To be an effective representative of higher education in Somalia, and promote greater national and international collaboration in Higher Education and Research.
Mission
To promote and represent the higher education institutions of Somalia on national and international forums and establish strong relationship with the organizations of higher education and sister associations through active support, cooperation and coordination among the member institutions and all stakeholders for promoting quality education, and research to develop the nation.
