ASSOCIATION MEMBERSHIP
Who can join the ASU
Any operational public, foundation, private university or other institution recognized by the Somali Federal Government Ministry of Education and Higher Education desiring membership in the Association of Somali Universities (ASU) may apply for membership by submitting a completed membership application package and be willing to adhere to the aims, objectives and standards of the Association.
How to Join the ASU
- Fill the ASU Membership application form, read and sign the declaration at the end of the application.
- Attach a copy of the university’s registration from the Somali Federal Government Ministry of Education, Culture and Higher Education.
- Attach three pictures of the university’s main facilities (Building, Classroom & Offices).
- Deposit a registration fee of $350 into the Association Bank Accounts.
- Scan and Email the full set of documents to the ASU Secretariat at: sg@asu.org.so
Any operational public, foundation, private university or other institution recognized by the Somali Federal Government Ministry of Education and Higher Education desiring membership in the Association of Somali Universities (ASU) shall submit a complete membership application package (detailed above) to the Association Executive Committee through the Secretary General at least one month before the convening of the next General
Conference. The application shall set forth that the applicant intends to adhere to the aims, objectives and standards of the Association and that the applicant either meets or is working on meeting the ASU membership requirements set forth in the ASU Constitution.
In recommending admission, the Executive Committee shall be guided by the ‘ASU Constitution’ and evidenced by the documents accompanying the application package as well as the field visit report of the designated ASU members. The Executive Committee may then admit new members by majority vote subject to ratification at the next General Conference by a simple majority of members present and voting
Categories of Membership
The ASU recognizes two categories of members which are
Full Members
Institutions that fulfill the following minimum requirements and standards will be recognized as full members:
- The institution has submitted a complete application package.
- The institution has paid the ASU registration dues in full.
- The institution holds a current registration permit to operate as a higher education
- institution from the Somali Federal Government Ministry of Primary & Higher Education.
- The institution certifies that it meets the minimum requirements as set forth in the ASU Constitution, particularly Article 6, sections 1 and 2.
Associate Members
An institution which does not satisfy Section 4 above may be admitted as an Associate Member. Associate membership may also be extended to other institutions of higher education or regional bodies and networks whose members are accredited universities or whose objectives are to promote activities of universities, whether located inside or outside Somalia.
Associate Members shall have the same rights and privileges and the duties of members except that an Associate Member may not vote or be a member of the Executive Board. If and when an Associate Member fulfils the requirements for full membership, it may be admitted to full
